Charlie Hurt (1931-2016), co-founder of H&P, was known for more than just his engineering expertise—he was also remembered for his striking resemblance to Santa Claus. With his full white beard, twinkling eyes, and cheerful smile, Charlie carried himself with a kindness and warmth that instantly put people at ease. Around the office and among clients, his presence always brought a little extra joy, especially as the holidays drew near.
Each December, Charlie would embrace the spirit of the season in his own unique way – he delivered bushels of crisp, red apples. When he arrived at offices or job sites, his white beard and booming laugh made the deliveries feel almost magical. The gesture was never extravagant, but it was memorable, and filled with genuine care—an extension of the way he approached both his work and his relationships.
By carrying on Charlie’s tradition, we want to show that our values and the relationships we hold with our clients mean as much to us today as they did when Charlie first delivered his holiday apples. It’s our way of carrying forward his spirit of gratitude and goodwill, while also reminding those we serve that they are an important part of the H&P family.
