Route 58 through Lovers Leap has long been known for its steep grades, sharp curves, and challenging terrain. As part of a major corridor improvement effort led by the Virginia Department of Transportation, the roadway is being widened to improve safety, traffic flow, and long-term connectivity across southern Virginia. The project represents one of the region’s largest active transportation construction efforts through mountainous terrain.
H&P is providing survey services throughout active construction along the corridor. Field crews have assisted with construction stakeout, survey control, roadway and drainage layout, and as-built verification across multiple phases of the project. The ongoing work helps ensure that design plans are accurately carried into field conditions as construction progresses along the mountain corridor.
The road improvements are expected to create safer travel conditions and more reliable movement through a key east-west route in Southwest Virginia. The project reflects the scale of coordination required to deliver complex transportation infrastructure in challenging terrain while maintaining progress on an active construction schedule.
